READ
Re-read Hebrews 12:1-3 and Revelation 21:3-5
Consider v. 2 in the NLT:
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honour beside God’s throne.
REFLECT
Sometimes you think you know someone, but then they surprise you (in a good way!) and you realize that there was more to who they are than you had previously experienced. I’ve felt that way as I’ve been taking a good hard look at Jesus. We can have a tendency to make Him one-dimensional—to focus on the aspects of His ministry or the names given to Him that resonate with us personally—but there is so much more to understand and experience!
He is crowned with glory and honor.
He is our brother.
He is our compassionate and merciful High Priest.
He is the faithful Son.
He is our Pioneer—the One who goes before.
He is our Perfector—the One who will complete what He has begun.
He is our suffering Saviour and He is also our seated Saviour.
Hebrews 1:3 teaches us that “after He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” Jesus is seated because on the cross the battle was won and His work was completed. His posture is now one of rest and He invites us to live our own lives from this same position.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:6 that “God has raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” Christ’s death paid the price for our sins; His resurrection raised us up to live this new life not only for Him, but with Him. To fight not for victory, but from victory.
As we saw at the very beginning of this week, we do not yet see everything as God intended it to be. But we do see Jesus—and He is crowned with glory and honour. No matter what this life throws our way, we cannot lose sight of this truth: He was and is victorious. We serve a risen Saviour.
There will come a day where our seated position will not only be our spiritual truth, it will be made manifest in the physical—when God’s home will be with His people, and He Himself will wipe every tear from our eyes, there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. The old way will be gone forever and all things will be made new.
Until that day, we must choose to see Jesus.
RESPOND
As you reflect on what we’ve been ‘seeing’ in Jesus over the past week, what has the Holy Spirit been highlighting for you about Jesus? Is there any action that you need to take in response?
Take some time today to celebrate Jesus—to thank Him for being with you now and to look to the future with renewed hope.
Jesus, I thank You for the incredible hope that is mine—that one day I will be physically reunited with You and there will be no more death or sorrow; You will make all things new. Until that day, I choose to fix my eyes on who You are. To live out of your finished work and to find rest in the truth that I have been seated with You. Thank You for all that You have and continue to do in my life. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Beautiful photo of the cross and reminder of the sacrifice God made by giving us his son to die on the cross and be our Savior.💪🫂🙏💐❤️✝️
